Can you relate well to young people and have a desire to teach and inspire, then a career as a teacher or tutor could be perfect for you. You’ll need research and planning skills to be able to prepare your lessons along with extensive knowledge of your chosen subject and the ability to explain it clearly. Other tasks will include marking assignments and monitoring student’s progress. Teachers and tutors teach in a variety of settings including schools, colleges, training providers, universities, community education centres, prisons and youth offender organisations.

Level 3
Originally known as PTLLS, the Award in Education and Training is a short course designed to enable a wide range of students to undertake teaching, training or learning tasks relevant to their own training or teaching situation. It is recommended for all teachers new to the sector whether in further education, adult and community learning, work-based learning or other parts of the learning and skills sector.
Level 4
The Certificate in Education and Training (formerly CTLLS) is designed for those in an associate teaching role, or for those looking to progress to the full Diploma or Certificate in Education/PGCE. The award covers the knowledge, understanding and skills required for session planning, negotiating learning goals, teaching, designing and using of resources, and learning and assessment strategies.
You will need a Level 3 qualification in your subject or an employer endorsement that you are working at the appropriate level. It is recommended that you have already achieved the Level 3 award and have at least 30 hours of voluntary or paid teacher experience.
Both levels can be tailored around the individual's needs.
